Durado for SND Secretary / Treasurer
Adonis Durado is the design director of Muscat Press and Publishing House, publisher of two major dailies in Oman — Times of Oman and Al Shabiba. In two years time, he has catapulted its products to global fame by winning more than 100 international awards from the Society for News Design, Malofiej Awards, and Asian Media Awards. His personal work has also been honored by the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts magazine, and Tabbie Awards. He is an award-winning poet in his native tongue and has authored two books of poetry.
MARIO GARCIA
If being passionate, spirited and extremely talented
are the qualifications for anyone holding SND office, then I can’t think of anyone better equipped than Adonis Durado. Design guru Mario Garcia is the founder of Garcia Media (USA). He is the first recipient of SND Lifetime Achievement Award. JUAN ANTONIO GINER
Adonis Durado is a hard working visual journalist
with a brilliant international career. INNOVATION had the pleasure to work with him in Dubai. His contribution made possible the impossible. SND needs this kind of international leaders, and Adonis is the perfect candidate. I strongly support him. Juan Antonio Giner is the founder and president of INNOVATION Media Consulting Group (UK). He was the first SND European director and founded the Malofiej Awards. PETER ONGAdonis is one of the most talented design directors I have worked with — always full of ideas, always inno-vating. He has risen from
a nobody in the small town of Cebu in the Philippines only a few years ago to become one of the most well-known designers in the newspaper world. The long list of awards can only attest to his talent. But what is not known is Adonis’ leadership and man-management skills. As design director of the Times of Oman and Al Shabiba in the Middle East, he has been entrusted with 50 visual journalists and production staff. As anyone knows, managing such a large number of talent pool can be intimidating. But managing creative people can be even more intimidating! But Adonis has done his job remarkably well, nurturing and developing people, guiding and teaching them day in, day out. It is this leadership skill that puts Adonis in a fantastic position to be Secretary/Treasurer of SND, at a time when we need fresh blood to build on. I would commend Adonis very highly to the SND membership. Peter Ong is a newspaper consultant based in Australia. He was the long-serving regional director of SND 19. CHARLES APPLE
Adonis is crazy-smart and wonderfully creative. He doesn’t just think outside the box, I believe this man doesn’t even live within reach of a box. Yet, Adonis is down to earth, very personable and easy to deal with. You’ll find no ego issues here. Adonis has been called upon to consider a leadership role within the Society for News Design. There is no one on this planet more capable -- or more deserving -- than Adonis for your support this fall in the annual society elections. Please cast your vote for him. And let’s all reap the benefits of Adonis’ service to SND.
Charles Apple is a freelance graphic journalist, instructor, and a passionate media blogger. You'll read him here. MIGUEL GOMEZApart from being creative, Adonis is a good man, hard-working and dedicated. He is proactive, a team player and committed with what he believes is correct. I am sure his involvement with SND will make a positive impact. Adonis for me is the ideal person to promote the values of the Society for News Design and to take it to the next level. As SND member, I am convinced that nominating him for a Board position is a step in the right direction.
